You Know The Thing

Things! One of the most common words in the English Language, simple, versatile, All Natural, Vegan Unfriendly, and... Political?

Things are a matter of meetings, one could also call them a Folkmeet or a Folkmoot -the origin of a "Moot Point"- it was and is a meeting of the people's leadership -and the people themselves- to discuss topics of relevance and various social matters, but they could also be what could be called Festivals, Fairs or Carnivals if said festivities also involved plenty of shall we say political discussions -essentially if Congress met only during the State Fair or Major Holiday(s)-

We still call such gatherings the same thing today though in English thing has become more generalized as to include objects or non human entities -Look at John Carpenters The Thing or the Marvel Superhero of the same name- Norway (Storting), Denmark (Folketing), and Iceland (Alþingi) all maintain a variant of "Thing" as their National Legislature while a variant of the word in another language populated other western countries. Congress (Meeting) and Parliament (Speaking) come From Latin and French respectively.

Yet in the slang and common tongue Thing maintains it's origin in tribal councils and assemblies. "Would you like to come with us to the Thing going on downtown?
