Thor, Friend of Mankind
"The Good Old Fellow, The Thunderer, Friend of Mankind, Champion of the Gods, The Charioteer"
One of the most widespread and beloved of all our Hero Gods. Built like the strongest of strongmen, a beast of a man towering head and shoulders above all others topped with a thick red beard and hair. Armed with his great weapon Mjölnir, his gloves of iron and belt of strength. Pulled in his war chariot by two great horned beasts, he is capable of drinking so much he can create tides in the ocean, able to eat a whole herd of cows in one sitting and is even capable of wrestling The World Serpent himself!!
Thor has had, and continues to have many adventures; more than any man could possibly memorize really, traveling the realms he trudges the great rivers that connect and separate them by foot or upon his famous chariot. While Thor will travel alone he'd much rather take a companion such as Tyr or his best friend Loki.
Quite often during more peaceful times for the Gods, they will go out to meet with his other friends the cloud giants who make their homes upon the banks of the rivers which you can see floating above us in the sky. During these visits they inevitably perform mock battles so that all might remain ready for when the true battles inevitably arrive. Garbed in their finery of war they engage each other so ferociously that sparks of lightning rip across the sky as the mighty blows are turned by armor and weapon alike and the mighty crack of thunder can be heard from our realm as a particularly ferocious strike is caught upon shield. Loki who is rather playful at these times often cannot resist abandoning these battles in favor of riding back and forth across the sky upon the bolts of lightning, or even down to earth and back again cackling in pure joy the entirety of the time.
Back and forth, to and froe they batter each other until most often; but not always, the waters of the river slosh over the banks to fall upon the mortal realm in great sheets. If you watch closely you can even see them in their great struggles as these gods and giants trade blows laughing and jesting as they do, if you are lucky enough to witness this it is truly a sight to behold!
Though it is not always during these playful fights that thunder occurs. On occasion Thor is simply playing a friendly round of nine pins with his friends in the yard of his great hall as he and some of the other gods are oft to do. You can tell this is what is happening by the long rolls of deep thunder that peel across the land but without the ruckus of a storm. You can tell when he or one of his partners make a strike as lightening will flash across the sky from the contact of the ball and the pins. Sometimes if we are lucky but not always a light shower might occur as the Gods cheer each others successes in the game slopping drink upon us mortals below.
Strength such as his invites challenge of course, and truly he has no shortage of challengers. Challengers such as Hrungnir, Champion of the Stone Giants! Whose meeting resulted in a battle so ferocious Hrungnirs whetstone shattered against Thor's skull leaving a shard imbedded within his head to this very day!
Or Utgard-Loki whose trickery allowed him to outwit Thor but also left the Giant Lord wary of Thor's might.
Then there's figures like Othin, with whom he has always had a complex relationship being both an ally and foe... Though such is the nature of the Beggar King when faced with a champion such as Thor.
At his core Thor is many things; Champion of the gods and people alike, defender of the vulnerable, loving father and husband his protective nature being that of a dedicated family man, one who knows how precious what he has is and the sorrowful cost of losing it.
There is a reason even to this day Thor remains a hero the people adore. With his own personal fortress gifted to him by we mortals, powerful friends, rivals, enemies, weapons of might, wise cracking companions and even many a love interest. A Godly Hero truly worthy of his epic reputation.
